The Complete Book of Pregnancy &
Sheila Kitzinger Hardcover 1996

Say No to Circumcision: 40 Compelling
Thomas J. Ritter, M.D. & George C. Denniston, M.D.

Gerald N. Weiss/Andrea W. Harter, Paperback 1998
This book will delight the circumcision advocate but disappoint the serious scholar. Unlike books opposing circumcision, which substantiate their claims with generous published medical references, 'Frankly Speaking' provides no such references. Outdated claims are based on studies from 1989 back to the 1930s. Weiss, however, does offer a fascinating opportunity to examine how some men resort to science, culture and religion to rationalize their own mutilation and to justify further violation of children's rights.
Circumcision: What Every Parent Should
Anne Briggs 1985
"Parents continue to request this operation for vague, if not erroneous, reasons and physicians continue to perform it - disregarding medical fact in favor of conformity.
It is time for health professionals to take the lead in educating parents." Robert W. Enzenauer, M.D. This book may be out of print, but Amazon can possibly locate a copy for you from a used bookstore or check your local library.
Circumcision : An American Health
Fallacy Edward Wallerstein
This book is out of print, but Amazon may be able to locate a copy from a used bookstore or check your local library.
Review from a reader posted on Amazon: The best anti-circ book of all. In 1980, a secular Jew and retired electronic engineer published this book, reporting on nearly a decade of work critically reviewing the medical literature research on routine infant circumcision. This was at a time when over 90% of infant boys born in USA urban hospitals were routinely circumcised, and the practice was not in the least controversial. The result was a damning indictment of the practice.

But wait!! There's a solution for the millions of circumcised American men (and the women they share their bed with). This book is available directly through the publisher (as linked above). It is less expensive there than through Amazon. However, you might want to look it up at Amazon just to read the positive reviews.

circumcision-without-research reflects the continuation of our tradition

Genital Circumcision in Africa
Hanny Lightfoot-Klein (Editor) Paperback 1989

Do They Hear You When You Cry?
Fauziya Kassindja, et al. Hard Cover 1998
The author's Muslim father instilled in her a distrust and fear of female
circumcision, a controversial procedure still performed in many parts of
the world. She would flee the country just hours before her own circumcision,
eventually arriving in the U.S., where she faced an immigration nightmare.
Her initial naïveté in assuming that she would automatically
gain asylum only adds to the tragedy of her story, as she instead faces strip
searches, isolation, religious persecution in high-security prisons and a
terrible sickness that was ignored by prison staff.
Cutting the Rose : Female Genital Mutilation:
The Practice & Its Prevention Efua Dorkenoo Paperback 1996
Despite a denial that male circumcision damages sexual function, and failure
both to convey how it distorts heterosexual relations and to explore how
male genital mutilation customs (which teach power and control) reinforce
FGM (which teaches submissiveness), 'Cutting the Rose' explores basic
similarities between the two. It offers useful insight into the human and
cultural dimensions of all genital cutting customs and their eradication.
Covers the health facts and the overview of the distribution (epidemiology) of FGM in Africa and worldwide. One chapter deals with politics of FGM and human rights. Fran P. Hosken is an international journalist (accredited to the United Nations) and has covered all United Nations Women's Conferences. She is the editor and publisher of Women's International Network News (WIN NEWS), a quarterly journal by, for and about women and development that reports worldwide and is sent over to over 50 countries.
